In the Waiting

“Make me to know your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.”

~ Psalm 25:4-5

How many times have you sat there, gazing at your life, and asking God “where are you?”. You don’t see Him or His plan. Instead, your life feels like it’s falling apart, spiraling out of control, or utterly pointless. There’s too much chaos. You don’t have a purpose. You aren’t doing anything. The Enemy breathes these lies to you over and over. That isn’t the truth.

This is a time of waiting.

See, there's beauty in the waiting. A beauty in the lowest points when we think there's nothing that could ever be good. A beauty in the times when we look around and believe that God has left us behind as He uses everyone else.

The beauty is that God is showing us who He is and drawing us closer to Him. He’s teaching us the ideas and values we’ll need to know for the moment He reveals His next step.

Spend this time investing in your relationship with Him. Read His Word. Study it. Don’t just go through the motions, but instead find Him between every letter. Talk to Him about anything and everything. Seek out other believers who can encourage and exhort you. Ask the questions you’ve been too scared to ask. Let Him work in you, especially in the ways that frighten you the most. Let Him grow you into a child after His own heart.

The whole purpose of our lives here on Earth is to grow close to our Heavenly Father. He wants us to truly know Him. For Him to be our best friend. And to accomplish that, He often uses these times of waiting.

You may not see His hand in your life right now, but I promise you it's there. You might not see the path He wants you to take, but the trees will part and you’ll see it. He is working behind the scenes, like a conductor, orchestrating the symphony of your life. He has a plan.

Many of the greatest people in the Bible didn’t see God’s hand at work. David wrote Psalm after Psalm, asking God, begging Him to reveal Himself. Ruth chose to follow Him with unwavering faith despite the hardship in her life. Esther was jerked from her home, thrust into the King’s palace, and then given a crown she didn’t ask for. Surely she questioned where God was during those times, yet He was always there.

Keep trusting Him and following Him, and He will make it clear to you. Maybe not right away, maybe not in the way you expect, but one day, you'll look back and be filled with gratitude because you can see how He used this time in your life.

So be patient and find joy in the waiting because He is teaching you. And until He opens the next door for you, praise Him in the waiting.
