“Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.” Prov 13:20
Christmas is often described as a season of togetherness. We gather with family, reconnect with friends, and spend more time with the people around us. In the middle of all the lights, music, and celebrations, Proverbs 13:20 gives us a simple but powerful reminder: who we walk with matters.
At its heart, Christmas celebrates Emmanuel—God with us. Jesus didn’t come to remain distant; He walked among people. He chose disciples, shared meals, and lived life alongside others. Even from the beginning, God showed us that growth and wisdom often happen in relationships.
Proverbs 13:20 echoes this truth. When we “walk with the wise,” we don’t just learn information—we’re shaped by example, habits, and character. Christmas gives us a unique opportunity to notice who is influencing us and who we are influencing in return.
Biblical wisdom isn’t just about being smart; it’s about living in a way that honors God. During Christmas, wise walking looks like slowing down in a season that rushes us, choosing gratitude over complaining, generosity over selfishness, and peace over drama.
The beauty is that this doesn’t end on December 25. The habits we practice during Christmas can carry into the new year. Walking with the wise might mean spending more time with people who strengthen your faith, being that wise presence for someone else, or choosing to walk more closely with Christ through prayer and Scripture.
Jesus is the wisest companion we can walk with. When we follow Him, His wisdom shapes how we love, give, forgive, and live—at Christmas and all year long. Remember, wisdom grows when we make space to walk closely with Him.
